Our History
The Romanian Baptist Church of Charlotte was established on November 7, 2004, by a group of 20 Romanian believers in the greater Charlotte area under the leadership of Pastor Livius Percy. Northside Baptist Church graciously opened their doors and provided a place for the church to meet and worship together.
In February 2006, the church called Ioan Pelea to serve as associate pastor. In August of the same year, the church held its first baptismal service. As the congregation continued to grow, it became evident that a larger facility was needed, and in October 2006 the church relocated to Derita Baptist Church. By the end of 2006, the church had grown to approximately 50 adults and 30 children and teenagers. By 2008, membership increased to about 90 adults and 40 children and teenagers.
In 2010, the Romanian Baptist Church of Charlotte inaugurated a new church building on Faires Farm Road near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC). In 2015, Radu Stir joined the pastoral team as associate pastor. Today, our church family consists of over 50 families—all glory be to Christ.
In a remarkable display of God’s provision, our church was recently blessed by McKee Road Baptist Church, who graciously gifted us their entire property in South Charlotte. For years, we had been praying for a location closer to South Charlotte, where the majority of our congregation resides, and this gift is a blessing beyond our comprehension. We are now in the process of gradually remodeling the property and joyfully preparing to serve the South Charlotte community, trusting God as He continues to guide and grow our church.
